Ponsonby Doctors acts as a sexual health clinic and provides a discreet and accessible service for STI testing (sexually-transmitted infections), treatment, and advice.

At the time of your consultation, your doctor will order specifics tests including urine and/or genital swabs, and specific blood tests for STIs*. These results are usually back within 24 - 48 hours, and will be communicated to you by email or text. Sometimes when phlebotomy may be required your doctor may refer you to a nearby Labtest New Zealand pathology collection site closest to our location at Victoria Park or Mt Eden. If you have symptoms or require treatment at the time, we can dispense medications for STIs on site , providing you with the convenience of a "one-stop" service.**

In Clinic Sexual Health Services

We offer a sexual health service for genital warts (HPV infection) with cryotherapy, also known as liquid nitrogen. Please note that several treatment cycles may be required (fee quoted during initial consultation). We provide vaccinations for HPV as well. The vaccine may be funded if you are under the age of 27 and meet eligibility criteria; consultation fees apply.

Another common STI is Herpes Simplex (HSV 1 or 2). This manifests as painful blisters, which can be swabbed to confirm the type of infection, and treated with anti-viral medication. It is important that you present as soon as the blisters appear, for the anti-virals to be of maximal benefit.

Other common presentations in this area include rashes, which can be due to fungal, viral or dermatological conditions; ingrown hairs, folliculitis; abcesses, prostatitis and non-specific urethritis (painful urination +/- fever) in males, and vaginitis (swollen, painful vagina) in females.

We provide cervical smear services for women, performed by our experienced nurses or doctors (female doctor available), and run an active smear recall service.

We offer PrEP & PEP services. The cost is $100 inclusive of all relevant testing, Special Authority application, etc.

Our rooms are comfortable and private, and patient Confidentiality is our highest priority. No information is shared unless you authorize us to do so.

*Our tests may include the following infections: Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Herpes, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and other atypical infections. 

‍Please note: For Non-residents, additional laboratory fees are payable to Labtest Auckland. This will be advised at the time of the consultation. Costs are $75 for a urine test, $125 for Herpes swabs, $110 for blood tests. We can tailor tests to your needs and only order ones that will change the management of your condition.

** Treatment for Gonorrhea is an additional $40, payable at the time of the consultation. If you need to return to our clinical centre for treatment, the fee is $45 and covers a follow up consultation.
