ALWAYS CALL 111
IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY
The doctors in our urgent care clinic are all skilled and experienced in dealing with all types of urgent medical care, "everything and anything" that comes in through the door.
When skin is injured, fibrous tissue called scar tissue forms over the wound to repair and protect the injury. In some cases, extra scar tissue grows, forming smooth, hard growths called keloids.
Keloid scars form to protect injured skin.
They can be much larger than the original wound, and are most commonly found on the shoulders, chest, cheeks and ears. Keloid causes can be from acne scars and scar treatment options include surgical excision.
The symptoms of a keloid can include:
- a localized area that is flesh-colored, pink, or red
- a lumpy or ridged area of skin that’s usually raised
- an area that continues to grow larger with scar tissue over time
- an itchy patch of skin
Keloid removals are often more of a cosmetic treatments concern than a health one. You may feel self-conscious if the keloid is very large or in a highly visible location, such as on an earlobe or the face.
A keloid formation can occur on your skin in a multitude of ways, including acne scarring and some wounds. There are some effective keloid scar treatment options, including both skin surgery or laser therapy as a nonsurgical treatment route.
Skin keloids are a cosmetic issue and therefore there is no need for urgent advice. Book today for a skin keloid diagnosis and treatment meeting and explore either surgery or laser treatment options with our specialists.
Treatments
Keloid scars may flatten over time but some people may prefer to have them treated or removed surgically.
If you have a keloid scar you'd like to reduce or remove, book an appointment with us!
Please note - Upon booking, our staff will automatically generate a prescription for a steroid injection(s) should you choose to proceed after the consultation. This is sent to our clinic in time for your appointment. You do not have to pick up the medication or do anything else prior to your appointment.
