PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) Consultations - HIV Prevention
PrEP is Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for Men who have sexual intercourse with other men. Taking daily PrEP medication can drastically reduce the chances of an HIV infection, providing an ongoing protection for those at risk of HIV exposure.
Note that while PrEP greatly reduces the risk of infection from HIV and AIDs, it is not effective for other STIs such as chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea. Therefore other prevention methods are required for general sexual health and other STI testing and condom use is recommended.
How testing works in preparation for daily PrEP use
- Book an appointment with us for the consultation and script at least 48 hours in advance.
- At least 24 hours before that appointment, go to any Labtests facility to complete your tests.
- Visit our clinic at your booked appointment time for your consultation, test results, and script.
Important details
Our process is as follows:
- Book online with us for an Initial or follow up PrEP appointment. If booking via a different service or as an add on, clearly state that you require PrEP and testing.
- > We will contact you to take pre-payment for the appointment.
- > We will place an e-order with Labtests directly for your tests.
- Present yourself at any Labtests facility to get these tests done.
- > No appointment is required for testing as Labtest runs on a walk-in basis.
- > For Labtest's locations and opening hours, see here.
- > Aim to have these tests done at least 24 hours prior to your visit to our clinic, otherwise there may be a delay in applying for the SA and being able to issue your script.
Fees
Our Fees for this service are:
- Initial Consultation: $100 (includes all test forms, SA review/renewal, results)
- If you have not had PrEP in the past please book a double appointment or state this clearly in the comments box as we will need more time to discuss the medication prior to starting you on PrEP
- Subsequent Consultations: $85 provided it is uncomplicated *
* Please note that our $30 repeat script option is not applicable for this service as it requires testing each time your script is issued.
Funded PrEPs
For your PrEP to be funded, this requires an application for a Special Authority (SA). For this patients need:
- Negative STI swabs (first catch urine, anal, throat)
- Negative HIV +/- other blood tests
- Normal Blood tests for liver, kidney function +/- Full blood count
Please book an initial consultation before scheduling an iron infusion administration.
Note that an extra medication fee applies to the administration if you do not meet criteria for MOH funding.
You will fully monitored by the doctor administering the infusion. Please allow an additional 20 minutes observation period after the infusion is over.
